Squadron Awards 2006

 

The Squadron's Awards were presented on ATC Sunday 5 February 2006. The anniversary of the ATC receiving its Royal Warrant from the King on 5 February 1941.

This year the award ceremony took place at The Recreational Trust Newton Abbot.
The Squadron was honoured that:- Newton Abbot’s Town Mayor Cllr Ken Lewis & Mayoress Roma Lewis, Wing Commander Brian Wills-Pope RAFVR(T) MBE of Devon & Somerset Wing ATC, Wing Commander David Chivers RAFVR(T) (Rtd), Squadron Trustees, Representatives from Newton Abbot British Legion, Families of Squadron members and most importantly most of the cadets who attended too celebrate the Squadrons achievements in the last twelve months.  
The CO thanked all those who attended & made the announcements.

 

The squadron celebrated the "Team" achievements during the year especially winning the Donald Moate Trophy for 2005 -awarded to the best Squadron of  Devon & Somerset Wing.
1322 celebrated winning many competitions at The Wing & Region Activities Days.
Wing Commander David Chivers RAFVR(T) (Rtd) Presented a new trophy to the Wing direct to 1322 having won the Artistry Trophy for photographic entries at the Wing Activities Day.

First

 20 Cadets who attend 1322 achieved - not all attended the presentation evening.

 

Leading

Four new Staff cadets received their lanyards for obtaining the highest classification awarded by the Corps.

Overall Athlete of the year. Awarded to the Cadet or NCO who represents the Squadron at any level having regard to their Athletic sporting achievements during the year.

Inter Flights Sports Cup.

Awarded to the Flight who's members collectively achieve good results at Squadron level. When no clear result is possible this is awarded to an individual who consistently represents the Squadron in any Sport.

Awarded to the Cadet (Not NCO) who is judged as wearing their uniform the smartest consistently during the year, having regard to points achieved during any inspection and the opinion of Staff and NCO's.

Community Cup.

Awarded to the Cadet who has attended a large number of Community events and whose actions are a great credit to the Squadron in the local area. (This award will not be given to the Mayors Cadet - its their job!)

Given to Cadet Oliver Deavin to mark his appointment as Mayors Cadet

Awarded to the Cadet of NCO who makes the most effort and achieves good results at Aero-modeling.

This year awarded to a Cadet Newcomer who in the opinion of the Staff & NCO's has excelled during the year.

Awarded to the person who has introduced others to the Squadron, having regard to the Cadets they introduce being enrolled.

Vicky Memorial Trophy.

The parents of the late fun loving Cadet Vicky Tucker who tragically died from meningitis have kindly donated the Vicky Memorial Trophy.

NCO's and Cadets are asked to nominate a fellow cadet or NCO who has given them the most fun & enjoyment during the year.

Awarded to the NCO or Cadet who receives the highest number of nominations from fellow cadets during the Presentation Evening.

Siobhan Flanary was promoted to Cadet Sergeant.

The first Cadet of the Month (Jan 2006) was awarded to Cadet Mathew Dunn for January 2006 as selected by 1322 NCO's.

John Cooper the Squadrons Trustee Chairman, presented a Squadron Shield to the first Mayor - who was our President Alan Vizor  he is still active on the Trustee Committee.

The Squadron Chairman John Cooper invited attendees to come and support the Trustees by attending the Squadrons AGM on Monday 20th March 2006 at the Squadrons HQ from 7pm

The Squadron President the Mayor of Newton Abbot made a speech thanking the parents for giving support to their children in the ATC. He also explained the very special link between the Town and the Squadron -demonstrated by the recent parade to dedicate the Stone at the War memorial. He also thanked the Mayors Cadet & the Squadron for always supporting the town.

Flt Lt Rick Webb reminded Cadets & Staff the Squadron belonged to them - That's why we are here.

The Mayor & Mayoress of Newton Abbot was thanked for attending the Presentation Evening. As a token of thanks the Mayors Cadet Oliver Deavin presented a bouquet of flowers and a small gift.
