Every year the Wing Commander inspects each Squadron. This year the Wing Commander Brian Wills-pope spoke to all the Staff and Cadets in attendance.
This year was a special year for Cpl Joe Edworthy - He was awarded a trophy for being the best male sports cadet of  the year within Devon and Somerset Wing.

SPORTING AWARD FOR LOCAL CADET

17 year-old ATC Cadet Sergeant Joe Edworthy of 1322 Squadron Air Training Corps in Newton Abbot, has been selected as the best sportsman in the Devon and Somerset Wing of the Corps for 2002. Chosen from almost 1000 cadets, Joe received his award from the Wing Commander, Brian Wills-Pope during the recent annual inspection of the squadron at their Headquarters in Coronation Road.

Joe left Knowles Hill School in July, having represented them at Rugby and Soccer. He joined the Air Training Corps in 1998, and over the years has gained his Corps and Region colours in Soccer and Rugby as well as Wing Colours in Athletics and X-Country. He is now hoping to join the RAF as a technician early next year, and plans to take every opportunity to develop his sporting interests and achievements.

On hearing of his award Joe said, ‘I play sport for the enjoyment, to get an award for something I enjoy is just the icing on the cake.
