NEWTON ABBOT

FESTIVAL OF TRANSPORT 2000

1322 (Newton Abbot) Squadron were very pleased to help with the Newton Abbot Festival of Transport 2000. The Squadron helped all we could in every way possible.

Initially we only intended to help around the Radio Controlled Model area with the Mayor's Cadet Corporal Vanessa Peers escorting the Mayor as required. As a result of various telephone calls from the event planners, we agreed that any Cadets available would act as a small backup tactical force based at the Racecourse ready for deployment around Newton Abbot as required.

The Tactical Force was deployed as planned, throughout the weekend Flt Lt Rick Webb, family, NCO's and Cadets all helped;-

We manned the Radio Control

Helped with the movement of barriers to facilitate varied activities

Supplied information to the Public when requested

Assisted Stallholders to ensure easy access to areas they required

Ensured a Bus area was kept clear of spectators when required Assisted and dealt with Car Parking at the Racecourse and the Park and Ride sites as required.

On Sunday we controlled an entry point at The Railway Station to ensure only valid tickets holders were given close access to the Flying Scotsman.

As a result of efficient Cadet Management by those in attendance all the cadets had the opportunity to look around and enjoy the events themselves.

A few of the Cadets decided to have ago at jumping off the Parachute Regiment's Tower.
Cadet Cass ready to jump off the Tower. All the Cadets who did get the chance to jump off the tower said they enjoyed it, many had several jumps.
